Our Mission
Our mission is to best serve our community by enhancing our members lives both inside and outside of our gym through our fitness values, providing accessibility to our facility, and by creating a safe, family-like atmosphere, instilling in Everyone the importance of living a healthy lifestyle.
Why Steel Valley Fitness?
Many would think initially it’s because we are avid Steelers fans, which we can’t lie that has played a huge part in picking our brand colors (I mean come on they are pretty awesome colors together), but that is far from the origin of our name. Many businesses are just named because it’s a family name so they may call their business something like “Jones and Sons Plumbing” for instance, or maybe they picked that name because it just simply sounds cool. Not our name; to us it means so much more.
It starts with where we are originally from in Ohio, a region known as “The Steel Valley.” This place became the American mecca for industry, more specifically steel production, that lead to some of the wealthiest people in the entire world and along with it stable jobs for many immigrants and Americans alike. Unfortunately, the steel industry started to decline and in turn the industry began to leave the area due to cheaper production elsewhere and with it came a big recession for the area. What it left were a bunch of people jobless and without answers, but those people were forced to change in order to keep living..
Many people don’t know this, but with a quick Google search you’ll find that steel is more flexible than rubber. Steel is Also 1,000 times stronger than iron and most steel products can last over half a century. The people of that area, although faced with tough times, lasted and built back their lives. They raised their families with that same hardened background and instilled hard work ethics in their youth, and most of all created tight-knit families who you knew you could depend on when it mattered most. They became steel-like; tough, lasting and dependable even when others were not.
Moving here to Page County and the Shenandoah Valley I came to see a similar group of people here. incredibly Hard working, hardened due to tough times and tough jobs and I saw many families that would give you the shirt off their back. This place felt just like home to us. So as we were thinking of names, Steel Valley Fitness just made sense to us. Fitness is what we do, but we plan on bringing so much more by serving not only our members, but our community.
